Volunteer opportunity description

Minds Matter Chicago helps high achieving high school students from low-income families prepare for college success. Students are accepted into the program as Sophomores and work with mentors, test prep instructors and other volunteers over the next three years until they graduate. ALL of our students are accepted into college.

Each of our students is matched with two mentors, who work closely to help their student become well-rounded and navigate the college experience from application to graduation. Mentors help their students discover, plan for, and ready themselves for college, which includes building a strong, trusting, empathetic relationship with their mentee. Our mentors serve as positive role models and catalysts for the students, encouraging them to reach their full potential.

Mentors meet with their mentees during our 2-hour Saturday afternoon sessions throughout the school year, September through May.  Additional time is required for communicating with mentees and their family, helping mentees complete required assignments, and occasional mentor meetings.
