Volunteer opportunity description

urrently, our students are studying a wide range of subjects, and we offer tutoring in every subject. Adult Basic Education, GED (High school equivalent), ESL (English as a Second Language), and Citizenship tutoring for those who are studying to become a citizen. We also offer a Healthcare Bridge and a Childcare Bridge course for those individuals interested in pursuing a career in either field.
Tutoring happens M-Th from 6:30-9:30 and Saturdays between 9AM- 5:30 PM. We ask that you commit at least 3-6 months to assist during an entire class semester. Tutors meet either twice a week for two hours each session, or once a week for three hours. We hope you can come twice a week, as our students benefit greatly from the repeated exposure! Also, because these are adults we are working with, there is no background check or mandatory waiting period to begin. You could ideally start ASAP!
We currently have two locations where tutoring happens; Our main space at 5101 N Kimball Ave, and our satellite location at 4219 W Lawrence Ave.

Please note the training requirement that all tutors must undergo. It is not a requirement to begin, but we ask that you complete the training within the first three months of volunteering. All training dates fall on Saturdays. The certification is 12 hours long, spread out over the course of two Saturdays. Training is offered for free through a partner organization that has locations throughout the city.

Tutors must be over the age of 18 to work with adults and have a minimum education of Highschool / GED equivalency.
