Volunteer opportunity description

TutorMate provides innovative opportunities for volunteering via corporate teams of 10 or more employees. By creating a platform for tutoring emerging first grade readers via the web, TutorMate makes it much easier for busy professionals to find time to "give back" in an effective way.

Tutoring occurs once per week for 30 minutes at a time.

Teams of 10, 20, or 30 employees from the same workplace sign up as a tutoring team.  Each team member is then matched with a first grade student in a Chicago Public School.  (We operate in other cities too)!

While the weekly tutoring happens virtually, tutors will visit their student's classroom once or (ideally) twice per year.  So there is a chance to meet one's student face to face too.

Phone, internet connection, 30 minutes per week, the desire to help a child learn to read and nine like-minded work colleagues.  Each team of ten tutors is requested to support the program with financial contribution of $3000 to help us cover support, equipment, and training costs for tutors and classroom teachers.
